Working with clay involves similar processes as architectural design: identifying a need, creating concept, iterating on that concept to find the most ideal solution, and then executing the final product or set of products. The relationship to the ground, the “foot” of the object, like the foundation of a building, is important. What do the walls look like and what is their function? How thick do they need to be structurally to support the weight of the piece relative to size? How does the piece relate to the human body in scale and comfort? Proportion of the parts to whole and creating beautiful form that is aesthetically pleasing is necessary to study for a successful creation.
